Goals and challenges
The main objective of the project was to create a simulator that would enable practical training of truck drivers. The task of the application was to reduce the time and costs of training newly employed drivers. One of the main challenges was to reflect the most extreme cases of loading, taking into account not only the weight, but also the type of cargo.
Solution
We have made an application in virtual reality in which future drivers can practice various scenarios of the delivered goods. We have created two modes: learning mode, where the user receives tips on how to place the load, and exam mode, where the user decides how to place the load. In addition, during the study and exam, the examiner has an insight into the user's activity, who observes the user via a tablet. In the learning mode, the user can use a tutorial that illustrates the theory related to the key principles of loading trucks.
Result
The Truck Loading Simulator turned out to be a great tool for introducing new drivers. It significantly accelerated the practical and theoretical training of drivers and reduced the need to engage trainers. This led to measurable benefits in the form of cost reduction and increased training efficiency due to greater interaction of trainees with the problems encountered. The training simulator turned out to be an excellent solution, with a significant increase in employment and a relatively high turnover. The ability to quickly deploy has also affected the ability to hire less experienced drivers, which represent a lower cost for the company.
